Description

The Old Pogue Distillery (DSPE-KY-3, the 3rd distillery to get a license in Kentucky) is located on the same grounds where the historic H.E. Pogue Distillery was located and drew its water. On the grounds since 1845 and distilling since 1876, the Pogue Family has owned the distillery and proudly produces small batch Rye and Bourbon whiskey using the same ingredient combinations and methods found in the recipes of their ancestors. The distillers, Paul Pogue and John Pogue are fifth and sixth-generation Pogues, respectively. The Old Pogue property includes the historic home of the Pogue family and an artisan distillery, complete with a tasting room, grain holding, and barrel storage. The venue sits on the southern bluff of the Ohio River Valley with eastwardly views of the Simon Kenton Bridge and Ohio River.

Taste

A small batch, 91 proof (45.5% abv.), Kentucky straight Bourbon whisky. Old Pogue was the flagship product of the original H.E. Pogue Distillery in 1876 and is also the first product released by the modern Pogue Distillery. The product was fashioned after an original bottle of Old Pogue that remained in the family for over a century.

Batch 6804

Holly’s Tasting Notes: Big red sweet, cinnamon gum, soft sweetness with some soft vanilla chai and more cinnamon spice.
