Taste
Cask #160618
Aged for 12 years in a combination of barrels, principally ex-bourbon; finished for 6 years in a first-fill American oak Pedro Ximénez sherry hogshead
Aged 18 years; distilled October 2006 and bottled summer 2025
Tasting Notes: Baking spices and brown sugar open, followed first by candied apples and browned butter, then fruitcake and Mexican chocolate. Broadly textured, the palate offers apple pie and oat cakes along with more chocolate and dried fruits. Warming proof and a subtle herbaceousness drive the lengthy finish.
Prized in blends—principally Dewar’s White Horse—for its robust, meaty character (owing to minimal copper exposure from limited reflux and single-tube, worm-tub condensation), Craigellachie distillate remains largely unknown to the broader whisky-drinking public, outside of limited distillery releases and the energies of independent bottlers. In this expression, the hearty character the distillery is known for takes on a broad, satisfying texture, allowing the indulgent notes of stewed fruit and chocolate from the finishing barrel to shine through.
