Description
Lost Lantern is a pioneer of both American Whiskey & Independent Bottlers. Typically we see independent bottlers in Scotland bottling whisky from distilleries all over the country. This is a niche of the industry allowing them to showcase superb single malts and small batch blends that otherwise wouldn’t be available. This has never been commonplace in the USA, until now! They are truly an “American Independent Bottler” and source rare and special whiskies from all over the USA. Their goal is to shine a light on whiskies you may not have seen or tasted before through single casks and blends. They bottle American Single Malts, Bourbons, and Ryes.
Taste
It’s very rare to find Still Austin Whiskey outside of Texas and Lost Lantern hand-selected this cask from the distillery in Austin, Texas. Still Austin is committed to making grain-to-glass whiskies that reflect the Texas climate and celebrate the culture of its vibrant capital. Aged for 4 years in a 53-gallon barrel, this was made from 70% corn, 25% rye, and 5% malted barley, all grown in Texas. A bold and vibrant Texas whiskey, and a great way of exploring how one of the classic styles of bourbon–high-rye bourbons–changes when made with local grains and aged in a hot climate.
Holly’s Tasting Notes: Mocha, white chocolate, nutmeg, and chocolate chip cookies. There are a few red hots, the candy, floating around on the nose along with some lemon. The palate has a rich chalky-lemon quality with chocolate, caramel, caramel apples with a finish of cinnamon, and those fake cigarette chalk candies.
