Description

Glenglassaugh Distillery is on the Moray Firth Coast at the edge of Sandend Bay. You can find it up north, just west of Aberdeen overlooking the North Sea. It was founded in 1875 but was mothballed for over 20 years until production was restarted in 2008. The brand was then under the helm of Scotch icon Billy Walker who also owned GlenDronach and BenRiach. In 2017 he sold the three distilleries to American-based Brown-Forman (Woodford Reserve, Jack Daniels, etc.). At that time, they hired Rachel Barrie as their Master Blender. Since Dr. Barrie took over, she has re-created the core releases and in 2023, they were finally revealed. The new releases include: Sandend, 12YR and Portsoy (peated).

Taste

Matured in Bourbon, Sherry & Red Wine Casks.

Brand Tasting Notes: The nose has sweet coastal waves of ripe apricots and figs that meld with toasted vanilla and tropical flora, carried on a warm ocean breeze. The palate has candied pistachio, data,e and sweet fig that roll into waves of morello cherry and whipped cream infused with fresh coastal air.
