Description

Catador Itinerante was born in 2019 as a project by Pablo Goldbarg to bottle world whiskies and the need to write a blog about whisky, in Spanish. Not long after, Pablo began his podcast “Nocturno en whisky”, a live podcast about whisky, society, and culture with industry guests, friends, and experts in other areas.

In 2023, Pablo toured Europe in search of whisky casks from distilleries without a strong presence in the U.S. With 50 podcast episodes produced, more than a hundred blog articles, and a transformative trip, Catador Itinerante finally became a brand itself, an independent bottler of New World Whisky.

Pablo is also the author of “Supuestamente entendiendo al whisky” (supposedly understanding whisky). It is written in Spanish and focuses on what Pablo calls the five domains of whisky: science, art, people, places, and stories behind a magic beverage.

Taste

Beech wood smoked single malt whisky | Distilled Dec. 2013, bottled June 2024 | Matured in an Oloroso Sherry Cask

Cask #23 | Edition No. 2

Brand Tasting Notes: The nose has toffee and cherries, sandalwood, incense, and hints of clove. Cough syrup, lollipops, and smoke. Surprisingly integrated with mineral and fresh grass. The palate has spices, licorice, salted caramel, stewed apples, and panettone. Could be rum, could be rye. Hot but approachable, hazmat gourmand. The finish is long, with stewed fruits and fresh green leaves, driftwood, sweet and floral.

Holly’s Tasting Notes: Oranges and bright potpourri spice, vanilla chai, sweet BBQ smoke and burnt orange rind. The palate is intense with that ABV and a bit dry but a lot of flavor. Yellow raisins, a dash of salinity and oak spice.
