Description

Murray McDavid was established by London wine merchants Mark Reynier, Simon Coughlin, and Springbank Distillery’s Gordon Wright. They quickly gained a reputation for maturing whisky in interesting casks, especially in fine wine casks. In 2000, the Murray McDavid team set about reopening the closed Bruichladdich Distillery on Islay, engaging the services of Jim McEwan, an icon on Islay. In 2012, Remy Cointreau purchased Bruichladdich Distillery and Murray McDavid. Later, Murray McDavid was sold to its current owners. Today, the home of Murray McDavid is Coleburn Distillery in Speyside.

Taste

Known for a quick distillation, Dailuaine is a Speyside distillery that creates a versatile single malt that matures well in a wide variety of casks. This is a marriage of four casks, cask #s 1911908 & 1911993-95. First matured in Bourbon hogsheads then finished in first-fill Sauternes casks for a further 14 months. Sauternes is a sweet dessert wine. The nose has floral honey, buttery malt, and yogurt. The taste has tropical fruits, oily malt, and fresh citrus. The finish is honeyed with lemon and oak spice.

Holly’s Tasting Notes: Funfettie Cake, cake batter, spicy pear pie, pear tart, and dark chocolate.
